Supporters and Sponsors

Southampton Coalporters ARC is thankful for the support from both local and national organisations. Without their help our club wouldn't be able to maintain boats, our premises,  fitness equipment, host club events and importantly, be in a position to serve the local communities of Southampton and beyond.

If you would like to get involved with the 'Coalies' please contact us for an informal discussion on how your business can benefit from supporting the oldest rowing club in Southampton and its communities.

British Rowing is the governing body for the sport of rowing (both indoor rowing and rowing on water). They are committed to ensuring the sport continues to thrive from grassroots right up to winning medals at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sport England has the vision that everyone in England feels able to take part in sport or activity, regardless of age, background or ability.

We would like to give special thanks to Sport England for the financial sport they gave to our club for the Bridge Arch project, to transform one of the arches within Northam Bridge into a boat storage facility. This has allowed us to safely store boats and in turn support a greater number of members to get afloat on the water to row.

Veolia Environmental Trust

We would like to thank the Veolia Environmental Trust for supporting the refurbishment of our club house with money from the Landfill Communities Fund. We were able to upgrade our heating and hot water system, renovate our toilets, fit new secure doors and windows, repair a flat roof and refurbish our club hall completely. The Community Grant Fund Scheme funds improvements to community buildings and outside spaces which are at the heart of the community for everyone and anyone to use.

We used local contractors to reduce our carbon footprint and employ local skills. We would like to thank Botley Roofing, Urban Interiors, Padwick Glazing , Forfar Flooring, Gasworks and the volunteers from our membership for working with us on the project to update the building making it a secure energy efficient modern inviting space for our community.

Contributors to the Bridge Arch project

We would like to thank all organisations, businesses and individuals who helped bring the Bridge Arch project to life. This project involved transforming one of the arches within Northam Bridge into a boat storage facility. This has allowed us to safely store boats and in turn support a greater number of members to get afloat on the water to row. Prior to this the empty arch was public space which regularly attracted anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.

This was a significant undertaking, with the project lasting five years in total, led by the extraordinary efforts of club members Dave Gallagher and Nick Chmarny. Organisers who contributed to this project include: Sport England, Southampton City Council, ACM Architects Ltd, Stephens and Stuarts Engineering Ltd, Inland Homes, Beaton-Edwards Solicitors, Matt King Roofing & Cladding, Alden Sheetmetal Fabrications, TTF Sport, Cycling & Communications.

We also cannot forget the generous donations from those who gave towards the Crowdfunding page, exceeding the £15,000 target to help secure the project funding from Sport England.
